Sunday School
Each semester, Kol Am's Sunday School students build an original piece of theater together. The starting point is a classic Jewish story. Where it goes is entirely up to them.
We offer two cohorts on Sunday mornings: one for children in Kindergarten and 1st grade, and one for children in 2nd through 5th grade. Over the course of the semester, students read, question, and reimagine a Jewish story — devising scenes, creating characters, making design choices, and performing the finished piece for family and community.
Last spring, 16 students in preK–2nd grade created Passover Play. In their hands, the midwives, collective action, and liberation for all people became the center of the story — with a few time-traveling Moseses helping along the way. That's what happens when children are given a story and the tools to make it their own.
